5 Steps to Sanity
Consulting and planning
Jill will come to your home to ascertain your goals
- Scope out what will be involved
- Discuss the options together
- Make a plan to declutter and devise a lasting, manageable system
There is no one solution. It's all about what will work for you.
Sorting: What stays, what goes
The prize of order and calm is now for the taking! Next comes the real rolling-up-the-sleeves bit. Together you and Jill will sort through the clutter, identifying what is to be kept and what should go.
Usually once we get started, people love the new sense of order and find it easier than expected to part with things they no longer need, by:
- Bin
- Recycle
- Car boot sale
- Internet auction
Or it may be that your clutter would be a treasure to another member of the family or a friend. Jill will help you to think these things through but the choice and actions you take will be yours - it's your stuff.
Reorganising
For the things you want to keep Jill can help you make best use of your space. This may involve rearranging the furniture in a room, purchasing new storage facilities or even replacing inefficient furniture.
Again this is done together. Having reduced the amount of 'stuff' you have it may well be that no extra storage is needed but that you find better ways of using the existing space.
You will need a system to ensure you know exactly where to lay your hands on things, involving labeling and properly storing items. This needs to be something that fits for you so you can maintain it going forward.
Often the things of most sentimental value to you will give you greater pleasure if they are on display rather than being stored out of sight.
This is the phase of the work that gives a real sense of achievement. The hard work has been worth it!
Sustainability
After each session Jill will review what has been achieved with you, and what remains to be done next time. The aim is to create some good habits to maintain order and prevent your world from becoming re-cluttered.
